Role: Lead User Experience Designer
Challenge: One of the ways the medical community offers new cutting-edge medicines to patients is through clinical trials. However, one of the challenges with clinical trial offerings to Non-English Speaking potential participants includes regulatory guidelines. In addition, most clinical trials are designed for participants; who only speak English. When clinical trials are designed with only one group in mind, this contributes to a lack of accessibility for Non-English Speaking participants to receive the full info and offerings.
Solution: An app to aid as a translator for the clinical team to include Non-English Speaking participants.

Background & Research
The research focus started with a particular state known for a highly diverse population. This would help us better understand the rate of clinical trial offerings for Non-English Speaking Participants in that area.
The Department of Health and Human Services provides oversight and regulatory guidance for clinical trials. The last update for guidance to include "Non-English Speaking" participants was released in 1995. America's landscape has changed as other languages are spoken due to new migration patterns.
According to the Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services (2013), in the state of New Jersey (598,155 Spanish Speakers), (52, 343 Cantonese /Mandarin Speakers), and (Korean 41,424) to name a few. Although this data reflects back to 2013, the increase in the number of Non-English Speakers has drastically changed today.
